Individual Essay Grading For: 2019 SHS Assertiveness Post-test
Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  I understand that you have a busy schedule but so do I. I completed it early this morning (because that is usually what happens) and turned it in at the beginning of class. I guess it is up to you whether you trust me or not.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  I understand that you may have last minute plans, but my mom always tells me that when you have made plans and something you consider as “better” comes up, you should stick to the original plan. And I know that is really hard to do. It is just having curtesy and respect for the person who you planned with first.
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  Because it is kind and considerate. I do think that if you have a very strong opinion or belief that you should stand up for it while being respectful. But what I don’t agree with is that you should keep reminding someone in debt to you or refuse to lend them money. As a Christian, I should give without expecting in return. In Matthew 5:40 it says, “ And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.” And Matthew 5:42 says, “Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.” I choose the Word of God rather that the interpretation of man on this topic.
