Individual Essay Grading For: Assertiveness Post-Test HGMS
Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  I understand that being a teacher can be really difficult, especially when you have multiple classes with other students in which you also have to grade their papers but as a student I think maybe you can be a little more focused on how things are supposed to be turned in so that I won’t get accused again. I can guarantee that on my end nothing wrong was done but as a teacher I think you should be more careful and have actual proof other than accusing students about turning in their work late.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  Hey _, before you make plans please make sure you can actually go, I have noticed how we keep on making plans and you keep on canceling. I totally understand if it’s because you have to do something you can get out of but if it’s just because you don’t end up wanting to please just say that. I’m sorry if this comes off as rude but you can just reach a point before it starts to become annoying. I don’t want to make your feel bad but it’s just a pattern I have seen and just thought you’d know about it in case you didn’t notice, which doesn’t seem like it because you continued to do it but I just through to bring it to your attention in case in the future I stop trying to make plans with you.
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  You should continue to communicate assertively because even though you have a chance of not getting what you want being respectful and nice to the other person is still needed because that’s what you would expect in return.
