Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  I understand that you have a lot of students and their homework to grade, but I know that I turned it in on time, and would like for you to look again and prove to me that I didn’t turn it in. Thank you.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  I understand that we all have our own lives, but when you make plans and then cancel at the last minute, it really hurts my feeling because I always look forward to hanging out with you.
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  Being assertive doesn’t guarantee that you will be respected, either by your friend or an adult. Some adults, and specifically teachers, think it’s ok for them to disrespect us as students. But, when we stand up for ourselves and don’t let them disrespect us, they think that that is being disrespectful. One reason why it’s still important to be assertive, is that you may encourage others, who are usually shy, to stand up to someone who has done them wrong. Another reason is that relationships may become stronger when each other are able to say what’s on their mind, respectfully, and come closer.
