Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  I understand that you think I didn't turn in my homework because there wasn't one with my name on it. However, I realize and take responsibility for not putting my name on my paper. I will be sure this doesn't happen in the future by putting my name on my paper every time. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  I understand that you are very busy and have been unable to keep our plans. It hurts my feelings when you cancel last minute on me. In the future, can we work to better schedule a time that works for both of us so we won't have to cancel last minute again?
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  With assertive communication there is no gray area so people won't be wondering exactly what you meant about something. You will be clear and your position will be understood. Also, assertive communication will ensure that you don't get walked over or taken advantage of by others.
