Essay: Imagine that you are struggling to learn a concept in math. Provide brief descriptions of how you would address the first two components of self-regulation to work towards improving your learning. Student Answer: First of all, I would begin by identifying what I am struggling in. For this example let's say it's area. Now I think of what I am struggling in specifically, it is that I am having trouble with calculating the area of a circle.
Now that I know what I am struggling in, I can be sure to pay extra attention to what my math teacher is saying about area. While she disusses circles I write down notes about what she says.
Upon returning home, I finish my homework and then ask my parents to make circles with different measurements filled in. Using my notes from that day, I do my best to answer the questions and write how long it takes in my notebook. After recieving the correct answers I right those down too and find how well I did.
For the next week I continue this process with the difficulty of the problems increasing and my time and accuracy improving. When I am able to consistently solve every problem efficiently I write down the strategy that works best for me in my notebook and then continue to study it in preparation for the circle area test next week. |
