Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  I want you to know that I respect your policy on turning work in on time, and I assure you that I did, in fact, turn my assignment in on time. It makes me upset that you would accuse me of being disrespectful to you. I would like you to see that all of my previous assignments have been submitted on time, and consider that there has been a mistake on when this assignment was submitted.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  I want to look forward to hanging out together, but I want you to know, before we make plans, that it hurts my feelings when you cancel. I need you to be sure that this is a time we can really hang out because I don't want to be disappointed and hurt again.
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  1. Communicating assertively helps people know how you feel and establishes boundaries and expectations. 2. Communication assertively allows you to be conscious and confident in expressing yourself so you can avoid being overwhelmed emotionally.
