Essay:  Imagine that you are facing a challenge and you are not sure you can be successful. Name three things you could do to raise your belief in yourself.
Student Answer:  In facing a new challenge I have often felt quite a lot of anxiety about being able to overcome it, but I have also always had a voice in my head that tells me, "If they can do it, you can too!" I do not know where that voice originated however I do know that I don't always listen to that voice. Trusting that there is no reason not to try, and trusting that I can get better at dealing with whatever challenge is the first step. Another useful way to raise belief in myself is to take the challenge a bit at a time. Breaking it into parts so that there are little successes will help in accomplishing the overall challenge and make the work to get there seem not so overwhelming. The third step to raising that belief is probably the hardest for me. That is to be humble enough to seek and accept help. As a fiercely independent person, it is difficult to admit when I need help, but when I do ask for assistance, the end result is always movement toward resolving the challenge.
