Essay: Imagine that you are struggling to learn a concept in math. Provide brief descriptions of how you would address the first two components of self-regulation to work towards improving your learning. Student Answer: I would look at the new concept and see what was familiar to me. Which portions of the new concept have I mastered previously? How can I break the new concept down into bite-sized chunks. Which vocabulary words am I unfamiliar with? Once I had a genuine understanding of what I did and did not comprehend about the new concept, I would utilize the resources available to me. (internet, textbook, etc.) If I was still having trouble with understanding, after expending all resources on my own, I would reach out to my instructor to help me understand the parts I couldn't figure out. This will save me the time and/or frustration of being explained a portion of the concept that I already understand. |
