Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  I understand that you might have received my assignment late, but I am sure that I turned it in on time. If possible could you double-check to make sure you received it on time or allow an alternative way to make up that assignment?
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  I know you have a busy life and things outside of our friendship but it really hurts my feelings when I arrange my whole day around you just for it to get canceled. Could you please make sure you are absolutely free when making plans with me so I'm not being stood up?
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  When you're assertive, you're still staying calm, but allowing the receiver to leave with knowledge that they possibly didn't have and it allows them to respect you even more for seeing how you deal with situations when you're stressed or going through something.
