Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  I understand that you think I turned in my homework late. I can assure you my homework was turned in on time. This is a misunderstanding and I hope you will be willing to hear my side of the story. Is there any way we can compromise on this situation, or a way we can come to an agreement. I am willing to work with you.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  Hey, it hurts my feelings when you make plans and then cancel on me. Due to my busy schedule it is difficult to plan on something, only for it to fall through. I value our friendship, so in the future if we make a mutual plan, will you please follow it through, or let me know quite a ways in advance that that plan won’t work out. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my concern.
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  1. It shows that you have respect for yourself. 2. It allows the other person to treat you with respect because of the personal boundaries you set.
