Individual Essay Grading For: JCHS Assertiveness Pre-Test 2023-2024
Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  When you tell me what you want me to do I feel threatened because you raise your voice and stare at me. You have stayed after hours recently to complete this work. This makes me really proud of you and has helped us to catch up with all the lost work. You often give work in late, which I find really annoying as it makes the whole department look disorganized.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  I'm sorry to hear that you won't be able to make it tonight. I was really looking forward to getting together. I've got so much going on these days that it would've been helpful had you reached out sooner, but I understand these things happen. Hope we can reschedule this!
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  Neutralising conflict and resolving it takes a unique form of communication that leaders must be able to tap into when required. Passive communicators would avoid this conflict. Aggressive communicators would latch on to it but let it grow into something unnecessary.
