Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  Mrs Kane, I understand your concern about my homework being late. I don't think that it is my fault, though. I'm trying my best in this class, but I don't have all the necessary resources to do that assignment. It would help a lot if you could double-check.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  Cobin, I understand that you are a busy person, but you can't keep canceling on me. It is starting to hurt my feelings, and it is hurting our friendship. I would rather you just say no than continue to stand me up.
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  Assertive communication isn't only for your benefit. Good communication could improve your relationships with your peers as well. Another reason to use assertive communication is that it makes you look and sound more professional as a person.
