Individual Essay Grading For: Assertiveness Pre-Test
Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  I understand that you believe I turned in my homework late, Mr. Day, but I know I submitted the work on time, and I would like my grade to reflect that.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  I understand that you sometimes can't make it to the events we plan, but it hurts me to have wasted time when you cancel so close to the event dates. Please, in the future, be more honest about whether or not you can go to our events.
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  1. Not having a guaranteed chance of getting what you want should not discourage you from expressing your needs, wants, and thoughts, because communicating honestly can increase your chances of getting what you want. Acting on potential is assertiveness. 2. Communicating your needs, wants, and thoughts honestly and assertively, despite not having a guaranteed chance of having them fulfilled, is beneficial to you and those around you because they can better understand the true nature of your plans. When those around you understand your thoughts, they will have a sense of clarity and may even help support your plans.
