Individual Essay Grading For: Assertiveness Pre-Test
Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  On the day it was due, I turned it in with the rest of everyone's papers on top of your desk. It is not my responsibility if you lose or misplace my homework after I relinquish jurisdiction of it to you. I should not suffer the consequences of someone else's actions.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  Every time we plan to do something, you cancel last minute. It throws my day off and puts me in a bad mood. If you want to continue being friends, follow through with what you say you will do.
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  Communicating assertively allows the person being spoken to the ability to understand how the communicator feels inside. This allows for the person on the receiving end of assertive statements to easily understand what their opinions are and how to find a solution or middle ground in an argument. Speaking assertively can also be good for oneself. If you are holding on to something and speak assertively about whatever it is, whether to someone or yourself, it can allow you to feel relieved because you're no longer holding that negative feeling or thought inside you.
