Individual Essay Grading For: Assertiveness Pre-Test
Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  I'm aware that you believe I turned the homework in late, but that isn't the case. I remember turning it in on time. If you didn't receive it, I could gladly do it again. But I know I turned it in.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  I know that our schedules don't always line up and it's difficult to find free time for us to hang out. But you've canceled last minute many times. Let me know if there's a way that we can both adjust our timing so that you don't feel pressured or worried about canceling.
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  Communicating assertively helps with making your point clear and concise. When we speak with too much emotion, sometimes our point doesn't get ahead and can get confusing to understand. Speak assertively also makes you feel more in control of the situation, as you're understanding everyone's point of view while getting yours across.
