Individual Essay Grading For: Assertiveness Pre-Test
Question/AnswerPoints
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late.
Student Answer:  Hello, I wanted to reach out because I think there was a misunderstanding with the dates on this assignment. It was out in the grade book that I turned the assignment in late, but I turned it in two days before the due date. If this could change, that would be great. Thank you.
Essay:  Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute.
Student Answer:  Hi, I have noticed recently that we've tried to hang out multiple times, and little things keep coming up, so the plans end up not working out. If you are busy, that's totally okay; it's just that the way everything is so last-minute makes me feel like you don't really want to hang out with me. If you don't, that's totally okay, just let me know instead of making excuses last minute. I hope none of this came out wrong.
Essay:  When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons.
Student Answer:  I think it's good to communicate assertively because it shows that you want to hear out the other person while communicating your feelings confidently and directly. It will help prevent the situation from boiling over into a bigger issue and hurting the people involved.
