Essay: Write a 3-part assertive statement to a teacher who falsely accused you of turning in your homework late. Student Answer: I understand where things may have gotten mixed up, when you have lots of papers to grade. Though you can't find mine, I know I turned it in on the correct date because I phisically handed it to you. I don't appreciate you accusing me of not turning in my work on time, I deserve full credit for the work I did. |

Essay: Write a 3-part assertive statement to a friend who keeps making plans with you and then cancelling at the last minute. Student Answer: I want to bring attention to the plans we keep making, and you end up cancelling on. I understand things come up, and plans change, but this has become a pattern. I would like to know what is going on, and if you don't want to hang out, don't make plans in the first place. It doesn't hurt my feelings if you don't want to hang out with me, but we need better communication if that is the case. |

Essay: When you choose to be assertive, you won't always get everything you want. With that in mind, why should you still choose to communicate assertively? Provide two reasons. Student Answer: You should be assertive even if you don't get what you're striving for because it shows others you are confident enough to speak on what you want and need, increasing their level of trust in you. When you are assertive it also helps you move forward and grow in life because if you are too scared to speak your mind correctly, it leads to self doubt, anxiety, and built up resentment. All which stunt your ability to have a healthy debate with others while controlling your emotions. |
