Assertiveness is expressing your wants, needs, and thoughts, even when it’s difficult, while respecting others.

1. Express Myself: Are you expressing your feelings clearly? Are you creating and adhering to your boundaries? Strategies include identify communication types, find my feelings, voice my feelings, speak my mind and be kind, respect my boundaries, do my part, and predict outcomes.

2. Respect Others: Are you considering the perspectives of others? Are you communicating respectfully? Strategies include show empathy, listen and summarize, and show respect without words.

In the first section, you reflected on your assertive behaviors. The graph shows your average ratings.
The table shows your response to each item. In the table, some items, such as “When an argument is over, I often wish I would have said what was really on my mind,” are reverse scored. This means that a rating of “1—Not Very Like Me” means that you are demonstrating strong assertiveness, whereas selecting a rating of “5—Very Like Me” means that you rated yourself as weak in that area. The color coding for each item shows where your self-ratings fall within the scale of low to high assertiveness.

The quiz section shows your current knowledge of assertiveness concepts.
